The range of imaging products is
ever increasing offering new and improved features. The latest news
from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Sigma, Sony and
many others can be found here. The news is categorised in
terms of DSLR, compact cameras, lenses etc. As the line between
still cameras and camcorders are increasingly becoming blurred,
camcorders are also represented here.
The
Advanced Digital
Camera section contains those cameras that don't easily fit into
the standard categories. The Panasonic GH1 is an SLR style camera
but it does not have a mirror box or pentaprism as found in the
typical DSLR. No doubt there will be more of these cameras in future
with perhaps some using the APS-C type sensor rather than the 4/3 as
is the case with the Panasonic GH1.
Sony's new line of entry level DSLRs
represents what looks to be a significant change in direction for
the development of their cameras. They represent a new focus and
product segregation compared to the previous line. It can be
expected that when the A700 is replaced it will be with a
significantly different in terms of body design with some user
interface changes. Sony so far is differentiating itself from the
mainstream by the lack if video recording mode and the different
implementation of live view. It is not a big issue as most will by a
DSLR for taking photos rather than making a video but that may
change over time as it is seen as a standard feature.
