There are many interesting locations within
these destinations that will keep a photographer occupied for days
(if not weeks).
It pays to research the destinations you intend to visit in advance
to ensure you get the most out of your visit.
With the availability of GPS maps on phones it
should be easy to keep track of your journey as you travel about
looking for a location to shoot. If you have decided ahead of time a
location you would like to shoot it is worth making a note of
sunrise and sun setting times to assist in determining the best time
of day to achieve the photos you want. It will give you some idea of
the quality of light to expect. If you intend to specifically
capture sunrises or sun sets be prepared to get to your location
well in advance of the required time to get your equipment set up.
If time permits it is always a good idea to
explore a place you wish to take photos of. Try and get a feel for
the place and you may see things of interest that you would of
initially missed. This will also help to avoid taking those clichéd
photos that everyone tends to take of the well known destinations
and tourist traps.
If you need to travel with a lot of equipment
to ensure you have everything you need, check with the hotel in
advance that they have decent sized electronically locked room safe.
The modern safes can be considerably larger than the old designs
with sufficient space to keep your belongings including a laptop,
lenses and other items you may want to keep there.
The high rise hotels are a great way to take
cityscape photos. Ideally they should have a balcony from where you
can shoot from and if necessary set up a tripod but many do not.
With no balcony and the need to shoot through a glass window care
needs to be taken to avoid reflections. The window maybe slightly
tinted but this can be corrected for in image post processing.
